• The United States has the largest documented incarceration in the
world.
• Year end 2009 the rate was 743 adults incarcerated per 100,000.
• Blacks account for 39.4% of the total prison and jail population in
2009 and only comprised 12.6% of the U.S. population.
• Black non-Hispanic males were incarcerated at the rate of 4,749
per 100,000 U.S. residents.
• White males were incarcerated at the rate of 708 per 100,000 U.S.
residents.
• Hispanic males were incarcerated at the rate of 1822 inmates per
100,000 U.S. residents.
• There are over 1.5 million Children who have parents incarcerated
in the U.S. and over 70,000 in State of Florida.
